SCHOOL OVERVIEW
The School
St. Mary's Preparatory is a Catholic high school for 550 boys in grades 9 - 12. The school's 125-acre campus is located on the East Shore of Orchard Lake in Southeast Michigan, and is shared by Madonna University and SS. Cyril & Methodius Seminary. Founded in 1885, St. Mary's continues to offer a college preparatory curriculum to boys. We have achieved great success in this venture as 100% of graduates are accepted to colleges and universities throughout Michigan , the United States , and even the world each year. An average class size of 18 students and a student to teacher ratio of 11:1 assure that students will receive the attention they need and deserve during their time at the school.
The academic year at St. Mary's begins in mid-August and continues until Memorial Day weekend in late May. Classes begin at 7:45am. and continue until 2:45p.m. daily. Students take seven academic classes a day. Twice a week, all students are required to attend Catholic Mass. A typical freshman schedule includes full-year courses in mathematics, language arts, foreign language, science, and theology, along with semester courses in health, physical education, computer programming, and computer applications. Both 5-day and 7-day boarding programs are available and approximately 100 students currently take advantage of those programs. All parents are automatically members of the Moms & Dads Club. This club is extremely active as a fundraising organization and provides the framework of communication and support.
Open Door Policy
St. Mary's ?open door? policy promises if you need to meet with the Headmaster or a member of the Administration, we will make ourselves available to you in a timely manner without formalities. Every effort is made to schedule meetings within 48 hours. We believe problems are easier to correct when time is of the essence. St. Mary's Headmaster and Deans freely give their cell phone numbers to parents and are diligent about returning calls and answering messages. We encourage full disclosure by our parents to inform the school of their needs, desires, questions, difficulties or successes. We at St. Mary's feel we can only properly educate our young men, and fulfill our Catholic Mission when teachers and parents are completely involved in their lives. To do this we must be available; it is our greatest asset to creating a truly ?family environment?.
Any policy outlined in this handbook is subject to correction and the discretion of the Headmaster and the Administrators of St. Mary's Prep. Decisions are based upon the best interest of the student body and belief of the school.
