English 9: Surveys in Literature and Composition req 9 2 sem
Ninth-graders are required to begin their language arts studies with a course that surveys various literary classics, from the great books to contemporary literature. Students also work extensively at the development of both grammatical and rhetorical expertise, as they compose essays on a regular basis. Students are required to learn MLA formatting and correct documentation procedures.
Honors English 9 req 9 2 sem
A progressive, accelerated, and more intensive version of the English 9: Survey in Literature and Composition course.
English 10: Grammar and Genre Studies req 10 2 sem
As sophomores, students begin an in-depth look at the popular literary genres and the authors who helped bring these forms to light. Grammar and vocabulary lessons are woven throughout the course to supplement the various styles of work uncovered in the study of literature. At the completion of this course, students are prepared for the 11th and 12th grade American and World literature courses, respectively.

A progressive, accelerated, and more intensive version of the English 10: Grammar and Genre Studies course.
Speech Fulfills Humanities req. 1 sem
In the sophomore year of studies, students are required to take a one-semester course in Speech to learn the essentials of communicative competence and to improve their abilities in public speaking forums and presentations.
American Literature or (AP) req 11 2 sem
Juniors will undertake an extensive study of the major American writers and literary works from our nation’s beginning to the present day, as they trace the foundation and shaping of our attitudes and traditions as Americans. Vocabulary studies intensify, as do reading and writing requirements. An Advanced Placement option is available.
World Literature or (AP) req 12 2 sem
Seniors complete a study in the World Literature course that focuses on the major literary movements of the Western World. An Advanced Placement option is available.
