St. Mary’s Mission Statement
St. Mary's Preparatory is a Catholic, all-boys, college preparatory high school with a Polish-American heritage and legacy. Our mission is to provide deserving young men the moral guidance, discipline, and education necessary to become Christian gentlemen, scholars, and men of service and leadership for the world. By completion of our spiritual and educational model, these men can gain the fortitude, reverence, character, and preparation to meet all challenges for the greater glory of God and their alma mater.
School Overview
The School
St. Mary’s Preparatory is a Catholic high school with an enrollment of 550 boys in grades 9 – 12. The school’s 120-acre campus is located on the east shore of Orchard Lake in Southeast Michigan and is shared with SS. Cyril & Methodius Seminary. Madonna University also offers colleges courses that are held on this campus. Founded in 1885, St. Mary’s continues to offer a college preparatory curriculum to boys. We have achieved great success in this venture as 99% - 100% of graduates are accepted to colleges and universities throughout Michigan, the United States, and even the world each year. An average class size of 18.1 students and a student to teacher ration of 14:1 assure that students will receive the attention they need and deserve during their time at St. Mary’s.
The academic year at St. Mary’s begins in mid-August and continues until Memorial Day weekend in late May. Classes begin at 7:45 a.m. and continue until 2:45 p.m. daily. Students take seven academic classes a day. Twice a week, all students are required to attend Catholic Mass. A typical freshman schedule includes full-year courses in mathematics, language arts, foreign language, science, and theology, along with semester courses in health, physical education, computer programming, and computer applications. Both 5-day and 7-day boarding programs are available and approximately 90 students currently take advantage of those programs. All parents are automatically members of the Moms & Dads Club and their active participation is required. This club is an extremely effective fundraising organization and it provides a framework of communication and support for St. Mary’s parents.
