Humanities Rotation el. 10 2 sem
What is the humanities rotation? This rotation allows students a chance to experience a number of academic fields or disciplines in a single academic year. The course consists of four independent segments: Music Theory and Appreciation, Robotics, Speech, and Geography, with each being nine weeks in length. It is hoped that this class will help students find areas of study that they are interested in and allow them to make more educated decisions when selecting their electives for junior and senior year, as well as think about potential areas of study at the college level.
Music Technology I & II (Humanities Rotation) el.10 2 sem
During this nine-week class, students learn the basics of the Western Music Tradition. This includes studying both the life and works of such composers as J.S. Bach, Ludwig Van Beethoven, Franz Joseph Haydn, Leonard Bernstein, Duke Ellington, and John Cage. Each student develops his ear through listening exercises that focus on becoming an active listener. Further, students learns to document their aural observations through weekly writing assignments. In the end, each student is not only able to identify individual elements of music, but to also write succinctly about his observations.
Music Theory and Appreciation el.10, 11, 12 ½ sem
This course touches on the field of studio recording through class-produced podcasts. Each student learns about the different hardware and software used to record, mix, edit, and master audio for broadcast, podcast, and CD production. Each student creates an idea for an individual podcast, which he then sees through the various stages of development: storyboarding, production, and post-production (or editing). Further, each student aids in recording various campus functions (i.e., the Oratoricals and Honors Convocation) for archival purposes.
