ATHLETIC OPPORTUNITES
Bowling
The Student Council conducts an informal bowling league after school that is open to all students. Students form teams of three or four and play a series of matches each week. Faculty members are also welcome to participate. At the end of the league, team and individual awards are distributed.
Intramural Basketball
This activity is typically held in the late winter or early spring; students form their own teams and compete against one another. Multiple divisions are established to ensure that teams of equal ability are matched up against one another. G ames are usually held one or two nights a week. Teams first participate in a round-robin format to determine seeding for the playoffs. The playoffs culminate in a championship game for each respective division.
Spirit Week and Field Day
Spirit Week and Field Day are important morale and class building activities. Spirit Week occurs throughout the week prior to Homecoming. Each morning of that week begins with a special barbecue breakfast cookout from 6:45 a.m. to 7:40 a.m. Each day of Spirit Week has a designated theme, and prizes are awarded to classes or individuals who stand out in a positive way. Friday of Spirit Week, also known as ‘Field Day’, is a day rich in St. Mary’s Preparatory tradition. On Field Day, the entire student body and faculty dress in red and white and compete in a variety of physical and mental games to determine which class has the honor of being called ‘Field Day Champions’. Though Field Day events change from year to year, the two final events are always the “obstacle course” and the “class tug-o-war.”
